About Us

Podding Shield- White on teal background.JPG

Podding Peer Support is a thriving community for people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland who are using or interested in the Omnipod insulin pump delivery system.

The group started in February 2023 and continues to grow. It provides an opportunity for individuals to be part of a unique community.

We offer a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment to discuss experiences and to learn from one another. Our monthly meet-ups and active WhatsApp group provide members with an opportunity to connect with others and to share stories, tips, and advice.

What is Peer Support?

Emotional, informational and practical support from people who have experiential knowledge of a condition.

It is done in a way that can be mutually beneficial to those who have the same condition.

Peer support can help to:
- Enhance self-management.
- Sustain behaviour change.
- Improve psychological wellbeing.
- Reduce the risk for hospital admission.

Did you know...

On average people with diabetes have just one hour of healthcare professional support each year.

Peer support is an effective way that can make a difference for the remaining 8759 hours.

"We are thrilled to hear about the Podding Peer Support Group.    From our understanding, this is the first support group which can offer valuable resources to Omnipod users, providing them with a platform for knowledge sharing, emotional support, sharing best practice, and networking opportunities.  At Insulet, our mission is to simplify the lives of people with diabetes and so it’s great to see others going above and beyond to take this even further. Our hope is that this group will serve as an inclusive and supportive community and encourage the exchange of valuable insights in managing diabetes with the Omnipod System."

"Here at the Leicester Diabetes Centre, we are proud to play a small part in the support of the Podding Peer Support Group, the first of its kind we believe. At LDC our philosophy and approach is about self-management and empowerment, as well as education, innovation and research.   This group with its ethos and innovative element is fully aligned with the work that we have done for many years and continue to do. We fully believe in a person-centered model and this group is a great example of this."

"We are delighted to hear about the Podding Peer Support group pulling on the strength of the type 1 diabetes community. Peer support, or people drawing on shared experiences to help each other with knowledge, information and support, is a simple but powerful approach to health and wellbeing. This group is a great example of a person-centered model." https://jdrf.org.uk/knowledge-support/ Dan Farrow, Head of Community Engagement at JDRF UK.
